When the Floodgates Open...

After the long quiet, the floodgates have opened.

Thoughts, words, and visions that waited patiently through months of practical survival are now rushing forward, threatening to overflow the banks. They arrive not in careful single file, but in a sudden, generous torrent—half-formed sentences tumbling over one another, images flashing bright and insistent, ideas that refuse to wait their turn.

It feels like restless horses finally released into open grassy fields. For so long they stamped and circled in the confined paddock of a life under renovation—moving boxes, paperwork, new keys, unfamiliar rooms. Now the gate has swung wide. They run. They leap. They toss their manes in pure, unapologetic joy. And I want to shout with them.

There is a particular exhilaration in this return. Creativity does not always announce itself politely. Sometimes it simply arrives, full-throated and unstoppable, as if it has been gathering strength in the wings all along. The page that once felt distant now feels almost too small to hold everything that wants to be written. Notebooks fill faster. The cursor blinks with urgency. Even ordinary moments—morning light on the new windowsill, the quiet clink of a singing bowl settled into its place—spark sudden cascades of language.

I am not trying to contain the flood. I am learning, instead, to ride it. To let the horses run. To trust that the banks will hold, or that new channels will form where they are needed. After the season of necessary stillness, this abundance feels like a homecoming—not only of the muse, but of a part of myself that had grown quiet beneath the weight of transition.

So I open the gate wider.

I pick up the pen.

And I let them run.
